Projects

Fluid — Generative Noise Algorithm Visualiser

Solo, end-to-end · Live

An interactive generative art application that renders a real-time animated grid of dots on an HTML5 canvas, with motion driven by procedural noise algorithms. Built with Nuxt 3 and Vue 3, it lets users explore and export organic, flowing visual patterns by tuning parameters like grid density, dot scale, color blending, and animation speed — all updating live via a requestAnimationFrame render loop.

Live at: fluid.stevemartin.dev

Technologies: Nuxt 3, Vue 3, Pinia, Tailwind CSS v4, Nuxt UI

End-to-end ownership of a creative-coding product: algorithm implementation (noise functions and vector math), state management architecture, canvas performance work, and polished, responsive UI/UX — in a small, cleanly organized codebase with a clear separation between rendering, state, and presentation layers.

Logoviz — Automated Brand Exposure Analytics

Solo — Final Year Project · Discontinued

A cloud platform that let brands quantify the value of product placement and sponsorship exposure. A user submitted a YouTube video URL and their logo; the platform analyzed the footage computer-vision-side to detect every appearance of the logo and surfaced measurable insights — largest on-screen size, total time on screen, a spatial heatmap of where it appeared, and a timeline of appearances — giving companies concrete data to judge whether the exposure they received matched what they paid for.

Technologies: Sails.js, Node.js, OpenCV, EJS, Google Cloud

Applied computer vision — feature detection and matching — integrated end-to-end into a full-stack product, from video ingestion through analysis to a usable brand analytics dashboard. Independently scoped, built, and recognized for both technical execution and originality.

Nadestack — Digital Asset Portfolio Tracker

Solo, end-to-end · Discontinued

A portfolio-tracking platform for Counter-Strike skins — cosmetic in-game items trading on an active secondary market estimated at $5B. It applied traditional investment-tracking concepts (buy price vs. current price, percentage gain/loss, trade volume) to this asset class, giving users a single dashboard to monitor the real-time value and performance of their skin inventory, alongside simple price-trend projections.

Technologies: Vue.js, Express, TypeScript, Supabase, Steam API

Independently scoped, built, and shipped end-to-end — from third-party API integration and financial-style data modeling, through a typed backend and reactive frontend, to authentication and persistence — targeting a niche but substantial real-world market.

Nuxt 3Vue 3PiniaTailwind CSS v4Nuxt UI

Technical Highlights

Pluggable noise engine: implemented six interchangeable noise algorithms from scratch (Perlin, Simplex, Worley, Manhattan, White, and Fractional Brownian Motion), each exposing a common noise(x, y, z) interface so new algorithms can be dropped in without touching the rendering code.
Reactive state architecture: centralized all visual and behavioral parameters in a single Pinia store, keeping the canvas renderer, settings panels, and export logic in sync without prop-drilling.
Interactive canvas rendering: per-frame computation of noise-based displacement for thousands of grid points, with mouse-proximity "repel" physics and displacement-driven dot sizing, tuned to stay performant at high grid densities.
Export pipeline: client-side PNG and SVG export directly from canvas state, with no server round-trip.
Responsive, themeable UI: built with Tailwind CSS v4 and Nuxt UI, with a collapsible dual-sidebar settings layout on desktop that collapses into a mobile slideover.
Production tooling: SEO metadata and sitemap generation via @nuxtjs/seo, and analytics integration via Vercel Analytics.

End-to-end ownership of a creative-coding product: algorithm implementation (noise functions and vector math), state management architecture, canvas performance work, and polished, responsive UI/UX — in a small, cleanly organized codebase with a clear separation between rendering, state, and presentation layers.

Sails.jsNode.jsOpenCVEJSGoogle Cloud

Technical Highlights

Video ingestion pipeline: downloaded submitted YouTube videos and extracted frames at fixed time intervals, converting continuous video into a discrete, analyzable image sequence.
Logo detection via computer vision: used OpenCV feature-based matching (keypoint detection and descriptor matching, e.g. SIFT/ORB-style) to locate the user-supplied logo within each frame — robust to the scale and rotation changes typical of in-video branding, unlike naive pixel template matching.
Exposure analytics: aggregated per-frame detections into brand-relevant metrics — peak screen-area percentage, cumulative screen time, a detection heatmap, and a chronological appearance timeline.
Full-stack Sails.js application: server-rendered EJS views backed by a Sails.js/Node.js MVC backend, handling the full lifecycle from submission through processing to results.
Cloud infrastructure: used Google Cloud for video/frame storage and hosting to support the compute and storage demands of video processing.

Applied computer vision — feature detection and matching — integrated end-to-end into a full-stack product, from video ingestion through analysis to a usable brand analytics dashboard. Independently scoped, built, and recognized for both technical execution and originality.

Vue.jsExpressTypeScriptSupabaseSteam API

Technical Highlights

Steam API integration: pulled live inventory and market pricing data from Valve's Steam Web API, normalizing item metadata and pricing into a consistent internal model for portfolio calculations.
Portfolio analytics engine: computed per-item and aggregate metrics — total inventory value, cost basis vs. current value, percentage gain/loss, and trade volume — mirroring the mental model of stock portfolio tracking tools.
Price trend forecasting: layered statistical trend analysis (moving averages/regression over historical price data) on top of live pricing to surface directional future-price estimates for individual items.
Full-stack TypeScript: a typed Express API backing a Vue.js frontend, sharing types across the stack to keep the data contracts between inventory ingestion, analytics, and UI consistent.
Auth and persistence via Supabase: user accounts and saved portfolio state backed by Supabase, using its Postgres database and authentication in place of a hand-rolled backend.

Independently scoped, built, and shipped end-to-end — from third-party API integration and financial-style data modeling, through a typed backend and reactive frontend, to authentication and persistence — targeting a niche but substantial real-world market.
